Putting words in my blog

As with most consumers of news, I formulate an opinion about what I read as I read it.  As a hyper-local blogger, I formulate how I want to express my opinion in my head before heading to the computer to write it down.  This morning the former occured but I don’t have to do the latter because the N&R did it for me..

The news item is here: “Black Leaders: Culture of racism exists“.  The opinion, with which I concur, is here: “Racism is intolerable, but it isn’t everywhere

I’m going to the 6:00p rally because I fit the description of those who are asked to attend, namely…  “…people of all races who love justice and cherish community.”

But do you agree with the nine items listed as instances of racism David. That is the REAL issue here and by attending the rally you are saying that you agree with the document as written.

No, by attending the rally I am “saying” that racism still exists and that I, for one, want to help get rid of it.

If I agree, or not, about the nine points doesn’t mean much. The fact is that racism still permeates life and politics in Guilford County. I’ve chosen to be part of the solution.

I attended the rally too, and my participation means I too have chosen to be part of the solution. Racism is ignorance. Why stay stupid?

Staying stupid is not my problem since I have been in the Civil rights battle since the late 1950′s. And as such I have found that you only set the fight back by backing the wrong leaders and indefensible issues. The nine points in the document were indeed important, very important. They must be be truly the result of racism and not of indiviual choices which many of these points are. If you can not justify the issues then you can not back them or make the changes necessary. Yes, racism still exists in Guilford County but not on these issues and certainly not with these so-called leaders of whom many are tainted. Just an old soldier who learned the hard way, and is trying another tactic of telling the truth no matter how much some people don’t want to hear or believe it. Brenda Bowers

Yes, Brenda, I’m sure you are convinced that Dr. King is looking down and smiling on you.
