a.d. Changes at Grimsley

With little fanfare, Grimsley High School’s former assistant football coach and long-time athletic director Neil Hatcher has left that position.  Replacing him are two men – only one of which I know.

Lewis Newman comes from Mendenhall Middle where he taught P.E. and fielded the Mustang’s football team for many years.  He has been instrumental in fundraising efforts to build a stadium at Mendenhall to honor the memory of for student/athlete Deebs Young.  In addition, Lewis runs a football camp for middle schoolers.  Daughter Josie attended for two years during her football career and my 7th grader, Jesse, who is going out for Aycock’s team this year, recently completed Newman’s rigorous week of training during that miserable, first, 100 degree, week of August.

Newman is a welcome addition to Grimsley.

I met Lewis last week and he certainly makes a great first impression. Hope he can fix that scoreboard at Jamieson.
