Vote Mark Martin – NC Supreme Court Justice

RLH closes an amazingly non-Justice-like (and un-Christ-like) web entry with this: With the real love that Christ taught, Rachel Lea Hunter.

This would all be quite funny if it wasn’t for the fact that every time Mrs. Connie Mack Berry, Jr, or her husband, publicly crap all over themselves, they get their names, however sullied, mentioned in the media.  Which seems to be their game plan.  They understand that for the most part, in judicial elections, un-informed voters tend to vote name recognition.

This time I’m the sucker doing the mentioning.  I’m sorry, but try as I may, I simply can’t ignore the trainwreck that is the RLH campaign.

Its appalling, its amazing, and someone obviously believes it is a winning strategy… and it may well be… unless some countermeasures are implemented.  So, to counter their “no such thing as bad publicity” tactic, here’s a suggestion…

If you feel you just have to write something about the Hunter/Berry trainwreck, entitle the post as I did above: Vote Mark Martin – NC Supreme Court Justice.  In this way, the NC blogosphere can help get Martin’s name in front of more voters (website)

“According to the Raleigh News and Observer, Connie Mack Berry, Jr. is a CONVICTED FELON.

    Spouse’s role limited

Connie Mack Berry Jr., the husband of state Supreme Court candidate Rachel Lea Hunter,
can do many things to help his wife’s campaign: put up yard signs, hand out campaign literature,
    extol her virtues on blogs.

But he cannot vote for her.

Berry, 67, was convicted in Georgia years ago of swindling customers of his jewelry business,
according to news reports in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Berry is active in his wife’s unconventional campaign. She has been disowned by state
Democrat Party leaders for describing a black Republican candidate as a slave, rebuked by
former UNC basketball coach Dean Smith for claiming he endorsed her, and rebuffed in an
effort to get her nickname, “Madame Justice,” on the ballot. State election officials said the
nickname would mislead the public because Hunter has never been a judge.

Hunter, a Cary lawyer, is running against an incumbent, Mark Martin, who has been an associate
    justice since 1998.

Berry was convicted in Georgia in 1997 of bilking 27 customers out of $285,000, according to
newspaper reports. He was sentenced to 30 months in prison and ordered to pay restitution
during 7 1/2 years of probation. Berry was accused of taking gold and silver he never paid for.
Berry was already in prison on charges related to a money order scam and replacing a diamond
on a customer’s ring with a fake stone, according to news accounts.

In 1983, Berry faced charges in Florida for swindling 37 customers out of $75,000, according to
news accounts. He pleaded no contest to four misdemeanors for failing to fill orders for precious
metals. He was fined $2,500 and given a year’s probation.”

It’s the sad truth but a hamster with name recogistion could win one of these judicial seats. The voters are
ignorant when it comes toward the bottom of the ballot . Nevertheleess I think Mrs Connie Mack Jr is done.
    Stick a fork in her.

Shame on you David! Not only have you curse Jesus, but you are acting like a first class phallus worshiper. Why do you rage as a heathen on the net against a Lady with a brain tumor? And stop calling the voters stupid like you.

Building community by blogging, another example of the GSO blogging community and comments at their finest!! Great work, Hoggard, some of your best. What do you eat for breakfast- slime?

So Rachel Hunter and her husband are slime in your opinion-

Her husbands comments are way out of line, as are yours. And my response to you after reading both of your comments isn’t much better. I apologize for that.

I’m not a community leader in Greensboro, though I’ve done a lot to build community at a lot of points in my life. I’m not promoted by the N&R, as you are, and others, who use abusive language online and link to questionable sites. I’m not kicking off the Converge South conference, which has as its lead speaker Elizabeth Edwards promoting building community through blogging. You, and a lot of your fellow bloggers on the Greensboro scene, in many instances, tear down rather than build community. You are abusive in tone and
link to sites that are even worse. You are supposed to set, rather than lower, standards.

  13. Posted October 2, 2006 at 6:32 pm | Permalink

Apology accepted, and please accept mine if the tone of the above post and my comments seems “abusive in tone” to you. I can understand how the tone of this post would be considered abusive by someone who may just be coming onto the RLH saga that has mainly played out over at Cone’s place

I am simply not willing to sit back anymore and allow the RLH campaign to gain name recognition without some countermeasures. If I say more, the object of this post’s ire will start another long irrelevant thread about it. But to suffice to say, I am waaay over reading any more innane comments that begin with a quote from a previous comment and end with *(name).

That said, please point me to instances, other than this post and comments, were I have engaged in abusive language or tone and linked to “questionable sites” that have the effect of tearing down this community of bloggers and commenters.

I’m not suggesting it hasn’t happened in your view because different people have different sensibilities, but I’d be very interested to understand where I have offended you in the past (besides this thread, which I stand by and certainly deserve criticism for doing so from you.)

    Good Golly Gee Whiz…..

Thanks David for saying what has needed to be said for weeks.

ANYONE BUT MADAME H. is fine with me!!!!

Ok…so there is one that thinks David owed an apology and here is me…saying HELL NO…he does not.

I continue to ask why others run her ad on their blog….slime money in my book….sigh….

If you are one that does run her ad….WHY?

I don’t run ads on any of my sites; and by commenting here have not endorsed either Hunter or Martin.

However, I don’t think it’s appropriate to tell someone to go screw themselves, or refer to the Hunter’s as slime. That’s abusive and I don’t think it’s appropriate for you, or me, or anyone to do it. Your defense of your post demonstrates that you think it is. And I’ve read at Cone’s site, the comments there made by many, including Cone, on the Hunter’s and many other subjects, are often quite ugly and abusive in tone.

As for tone, you engaged in rumor mongering, for instance, in the Diane Belamy Small leaking debacle. You smeared the City Council, making fun of them for wanting to prove their innocence in the matter by taking lie detector tests. When someone comes to your door, begging, you’ve assumed they are trying to con you out of something rather than actually being in need and advised others to do the same. Those are just a few examples. Do you feel these things build community?

I am not a community leader, endorsed by the N&R, nor am I kicking off a conference whose lead speaker’s topic is building community. You are, and in that position are looked to for standards to emulate.

Hoggard can be all of those things and still detest all that the Hunter/Mack camp stands for. He can still favor one candidate over another. He’s still in AMERICA.

They are slime. Mack is a criminal, has made numerous death threats against people that oppose his wife’s political agenda, has a nasty vocabulary that he uses to make those threats, they lie, they cheat, obviously, he steals, she is an admitted online dominatrix and has been denounced by both major political parties.

They are a joke and would be a huge embarrassment to NC if she wins.

Of course your perception of me is your reality… but my perception of you is that you don’t read very carefully.

Re: My post about a con man coming to my door. … please read it again and tell me my assumption about the man who came “begging” was anything other than a con man. The only reason you might not understand my reaction during that episode is if you don’t know anything about a woman’s physiology during pregnancy.  And, in that post or elsewhere, I don’t find where I have EVER “advised others” to not help someone who is in true need.  If you have been reading for awhile, you’d know I advise quite the opposite of that charge.

Re: “You smeared the City Council…” and the rest. The only thing I can find about the Bellamy-Small episode is in this post, or perhaps it was this one when the story first surfaced. In either case, please point to how I “smeared the City Council” or engaged in “rumor mongering“ in your view.

Are you confusing me with someone else perhaps?

And please vote for Mark Martin.  (What is the url of your blog?)
