Friday night… again

The Grimsley Whirlies are going for nine in a row tonight against the Ben Smith H.S. Eagles (1-7).  By all indications, tonight’s game will give next year’s Whirlie team some playing time.

In the only state-wide football rankings I know of, Grimsley is rated #5 among all teams regardless of classification and #4 in their own 4-A class.  Heady times, these.

But its not nearly over.  They’re likely to face rival Page again in the November playoffs, who are coming on strong in the Metro 4-A.

They’ve got to get by the Asheboro Blue Comets, too. No playoff implications, I guess, but a tough opponent nonetheless.

A Page -Grimsley playoff game? I’m not sure our local school administrators could take it! Thanks for the positive nod to the Pirates!!

David: The other state high school football poll (the Associated Press one, which we had in today’s paper) has Grimsley ranked sixth in 4-A. The first five: Charlotte Independence (of course), Greensville Rose, Richmond County, Asheville Reynolds and the coincidentally named (as far as I know, but maybe not) Wilmington Hoggard.

Asheboro is 3-A, Ed, which means there’s no date with Grimsley in the Blue Comets’ immediate future.

    Thanks guys…

John, I hope we play Hoggard at some point. I’ve been dying to get my hands on a Hoggard sweatshirt for years.
