Bellamy-Small’s constituants weigh in

So far, the voices that have been missing in the Bellamy-Small/Gatten flare up is that of the embattled councilwoman’s constituancy.

Enter the Carolina Peacmaker, who was not invited to Gatten’s court house steps gathering.  Or as they put it. “…A press conference in which Gatten, who reportedly has aspirations to run for mayor of Greensboro, failed to contact the Peacemaker, which predominantly serves the African American community as well as the majority of Bellamy-Small’s constituents.”

Despite their exclusion, the Peacemaker got out and asked some District 1 folks what they thought about TDBS.

Rev. Belvin Jessup, who held Bellamy-Small’s council seat from 2001 to 2003… “Dianne Bellamy-Small is pretty much in trouble and has been so since she took office… Her way of doing things is counterproductiveâ€?.

And this…

East Side Park Neighborhood President, Marie Stamey, who resides in Bellamy-Small’s district, reported that she is in favor of Bellamy-Small resigning.  ‘I feel that she could do a whole lot of things better. The rest of the council could too and I would probably sign a petition that would ask for all of their resignations. But Dianne is my district representative and we deserve better than what we got.’

Where were these quotes taken from as they fly in the face of why Bellamy-Small’s claims that she will not resign – her constituents have not expressed this desire… Sure looks like a smoking gun to me…

Maybe they should be faxed to her office…

Marie Stamey carries a lot of weight with me. I think she’s done more for District 1 than anyone I can think of.

Come to think of it … Marie Stamey for City Council!

I live in District 1 and I think that DBS is a disgrace. I didn’t vote for her in the last election and I definitely will sign any petition for her recall. This is not to say that I support Gatten’s grandstanding, which I do suspect was politically motivated, but at least she had the guts to say it. I’m glad to hear others in District 1 speaking out.
