A blog to replace her fax machine…

I could not be more pleased that TD Bellamy-Small has started a blog.  For a city council person who, before this, would only communicate through written questions sent via fax machine, a weblog could become an almost cathartic medium.  I hope she keeps it up.

Contrary to what others might think of her because of the way she stonewalls the traditional press, my information is that she is one of the most responsive and effective council members we have.  I have talked to several city department heads who express admiration for her tenatiousness in getting issues resolved in her district while at the same time expressing their displeasure at her demeanor and her it’s-just-business attitude while doing it.

In other words, TDBS is a thorn in the ass of city administrators and effectively gets things done while not caring whether she is liked or not by those that are hired to serve the taxpayers.

Given such credentials, most grown-up cities would probably be asking such a hard-nosed public official to run for mayor.  In Greensboro however, we launch a recall election.

Most of the public perception of TDBS is of her own making because she is been famously not forthcoming in the public forum.  Hopefully this weblog of hers will change all of that.

I go to a high school here in Guilford County, and she came to our school to do a presentation last year. I,along with classmates, expected the same spiel that Terry Grier gave when he came in, talking about his credentials, how well-known he is, and why he, in his opinion, makes a great GCS superintendent. However, she was exactly the opposite. She wanted to know what we had to say and she also was eager to tell us about her. Rather than hearing some drone from the public office (think the teacher from Peanuts), we were given a lively and interesting presentation. She really demonstrated her commitment to Greensboro as well. Honestly, I think we need more council members like her.

“one of the most responsive and effective council members we have.”
“admiration for her tenatiousness in getting issues resolved”
    “effectively gets things done”
“most grown-up cities would probably be asking such a hard-nosed public official to run for mayor.”
So the Hogg is the new TDBS campaign manager and she should run for mayor.
Now she’s just the poor innocent victim of rumors and the hate mongering media.
Perhaps the city will allow you to sit behind her at the next council meeting with a large fan and feed her peeled grapes while you make sure she gets her camel’s milk bath afterwards.
    Mayor Bellamy-Small.
    You must be on crack.
(PS…don’t forget my invitation to the BBQ this year)

I was repeating and editorializing on what some long-time department heads have told me. Perhaps they should be the ones to head up her campaign.

Or… perhaps they were just lying to me.

BBQ? What BBQ? I’m in on some BBQ? Please resend the invite to dhoggard@triad.rr.com.

Just messing with you about the grapes Hogg Man.
I know you’re probably tired of hearing it from everywhere…but any decision on the political front?
I read what you said about business being good and I know that has to play into your decision.
I really believe this is going to be one of the most active and exciting elections for city council that we have seen in some time.
    Later Hogg.
