She should only blog the good stuff about homelessness, I suppose…

Homelessness prevention advocate Cara Michele Forest is getting slapped down for blogging about being a homelessness prevention advocate by the Homelessness Prevention Coalition of Guilford County of which she is a member.

Says GPCGC president Karen Briggs…

“I have received a complaint about your blog and it’s being linked to the HPCGC website.  Please remove your link.”

Following an email exchange, within which Briggs states, “You are the only individual member who has a personal link on the HPCGC website, all others are service providers. And yes, your website is the only one that is causing problems.”  Cara Michele fires back…

“I am an advocate for the homeless in Greensboro. If telling their stories and telling the truth about homelessness is “contrary to the success of the Coalition,â€? then you have a much bigger problem than my blog.”

Apparently some sensitive toes were stepped upon within this previous post.  CM tries to explain the flap to us thusly… …when somebody in authority finds out about the problem you uncovered, well then, all hell breaks loose and you become the enemy.”

Update: Cone got it right… “I’m guessing that not every group with a link on the Coalition page is in complete accord with every opinion or strategy advanced at every other listed website, or everything done by the Coalition. Personal blogs, especially those that deal in some large part with the issue of homelessness, should be treated the same way as institutional websites.”   “…The group has made  a poor decision; let’s hope that some good-faith discussion of the issues involved will lead it to rescind its request to kill the link.”

This is a war I’m willing to fight. No one picks on CM as long as I can help it.

Ditto Billy. Not sure what I personally can do except moral support, but I believe the entire Greensboro Blogging group would agree that Cara Michelle is the “heart” of us all. BB

Altho I am a daily reader of her blog, thank you David for bringing it on your site to the attention of those who may not be. BB

How about a section labeled “Personal Links” with a disclaimer? You don’t have to disrespect CM to address the concern of the organization through tangible action. All this war and posturing gets so old.

I couldn’t agree more with Billy. I guess that is why Chosen Fast is linked on my site, but the Homelessness Prevention Coalition is not.

I trust her opinion over that of a bureaucracy any day.
