My 13 year-old world traveler

Our 13 year-old Jesse leaves for a two-week journey to parts south today.  I’m not talking Florida here, but really south.  As a matter of fact, he’s going so far south that he will get to experience winter in July.

Guilford County School’s chile_map_2007-worldfactbook.jpgspanish immersion program has been the springboard for some great adventures for the two youngest Hoggards.  Both of them them took trips to Costa Rico as rising 6th graders, but Jesse and about a dozen of his 8th grade classmates are taking another extended filed trip.  This time to Chile.

The kids are traveling with just a few trusted parent-chaparones.  Jinni and I not among them so he’ll be on his own for the duration.  Sort of.  Each of the students have been paired with a host family and much of their structured time will be spent in an 8th grade Chilean classroom.

Jesse has been corresponding with his hosts for several months now and has been dusting off his considerable Spanish-language chops in preparation for all he will be experiencing.  He has promised to keep in touch via e-mail and let us know what all he is up to.

I’m sure going to miss my puppy.  He’ll likely come back much more grown up than the journey-proud child I kissed goodnight last night.

Sorry ’bout the email not working. Guess we’ll just have to talk via blog.

Family is fine but we miss you. Had a porch full of neighbors last night but today has been quiet.

Yesterday I worked on the Saab and got it running. Going to get it into the shop this week. We’ll have to take another road trip in it soon.

Dogs and cats are doing fine, brother and sister are getting along. Mom is great and working in Raleigh.

    Been skiing yet?
    Love, Dad
