Aycock NNO BBQ

The Aycock Neighborhood really made the news yesterday.

I had to leave town around 2:00p, but not before stoking up the old pig cooker around 8:30a and placing 16 Boston butts on it to slow cook.  Several neighbors pulled together a great meal that was the draw for Aycock’s National Night Out masses.  Our event, which also included a bi-annual neighborhood meeting started at 6:00p that evening in Sternberger Park and went until 8p.

I returned home this evening to find a a great story about our NNO event as well as a front page picture of daughter Josie serving up some Q to the police.  (image not posted)

The story mentioned that Police Chief Bellamy and City Manager Johnson came over to visit.  (They knew the BBQ was on and probably wanted a break from the standard NNO dare of hamburgers and hot dogs offered in other ‘hoods.)  We also had our councilwoman Goldie Wells in attendance.

Local photographer-extraordinaire and neighbor Bert Vanderveen captured the whole event.  There’s some great shots to see in his collection of photos.

I love where I live.  You can too… Rumor has it that I will firing up the cooker again this year for ConvergeSouth so you can come see for yourself.

Dear David (Hoggard) and Aycock Neighborhood Association:

I understand that you are getting involved in Aycock Middle School. I’m not a neighbor (unfortunately) but do have a child who attends Aycock M.S. We appreciate anything and everything you do for this beautiful school in your beautiful neighborhood!!!
