Legal circles

What a mess.  Our City Council won’t be getting a “Black Book” background briefing from attorney Seth Cohen after all.

School Board chairman Alan Duncan, aka legal counsel to our Council, advised that such a meeting would violate open meeting laws.  Presumably such a violation would be pursued via lawsuit from an interested and aggrieved party.  That is the traditional role played by the Rhino Times whose legal counsel is none other than…. Seth Cohen.

They say that incest is a game the whole family can play.  Greensboro plays it better than most.  What a mess.

I wonder if anybody can explain why the council can meet in closed session to review the black book but cannot meet in closed session to see the attachments to the book. Should the review of the black book also been public?

Although I believe that most of the City Council Members can read and that I think that most of what Seth Cohen may have said was already printed in the Rhinotimes.

Where have you been the last two years? Of course there is more “here” than David Wray’s firing. Wray however was getting too close to the “truths” in Greensboro and had to go.

Mitch Johnson and Linda Miles are merely the hatchet people. They will be protected as long as they are useful, or until someone else can be purchased to do the power brokers bidding.

The entire fiasco was simply to destroy the GPD. Operation: Successful beyond any and all expectations! Criminals now in control of both the police department and city hall. Let the drugs flow and lawlessness reign!

Isn’t Seth Cohen also council for the N&R or have I confused him with some other incestious lawyer?

And something that has been bothering me of late: The City has its own legal staff made up of Bar Approved lawyers, right? So why are thousands of our tax dollars going to outside law firms? Could it be
    A. The entire City legal department is inept, B. Sweetheart deals on the part of the City Manager’s office,
    C. City legal employees are so corrupt they need lawyers themselves, or
    D. All of the above?

It looks like the old guard is going to do whatever they can to block the resolution of this matter. Why is they are going to such lengths to cover for Miles and Johnson? I’m beginning to think there’s alot more here than just the David Wray incident thats in play here.

Funny how you fail to mention that Duncan is a School Board Member, The N&R’s Attorney as well as the City’s Attorney. Talk about incest. Also, what council saw was just the photo’s. Wonder where the incident report went? Why not let the council here the tape conversation between the girl making the claim that she was sexually assaulted? Why not give the entire story about why the black book was made. Oh yeah, how about proving it was shown to others as well.

Didn’t mean to omit any of Smith-Moore’s client list, Ben.

I did mention he is chair of the school board.

    Great question, Roch.

Strange thing about this whole thing is: Even I understand why the Black Book exists. The complaintant accused a black officer of the crime. It would have been silly to include any pictures of white people in the array.

I really don’t see any controversy or wrong in that… it is just common sense.

My understanding is that the black book was important to the city manager’s decisions regarding Wray’s employment inasmuch as Wray didn’t produce or acknowledge the innocuous book when repeatedly asked about its existence.

Surely our City Council knows as much about the circumstances as I do and I’ve never met with Seth Cohen.

David Wray did not produce a “black book” because he didn’t know what Johnson was talking about. It never occurred to him they were referring to a photo line up book. There are probably hundreds of photo line up books in the GPD archives with pictures of nothing but Black men. And I am fairly sure some of these have photos of GPD police officers as they were at one time ordinary citizens and not coated with teflon as they are now.

Put yourself in Wray’s position. His boss is demanding a “Black Book” used by “Secret Police” in the GPD to target Black officers. You don’t know anything about any such operation or conspiracy so how can you produce what you don’t have. After brain storming with the command staff someone thought of that instance of assault allegedly by a Black officer. An array was produced so they wondered if that was the “Black Book” Johnson insisted Wray produce. Remember they were grabbing at straws here. But that theory didn’t make sense because the documentation was right there in the book and it told how and why it was made up and used.
Now, what would you have done in Wray’s case except what he did and that was tell Johnson the truth, that he nor his command staff knew anything about a so-called “Black Book”?

As usual, you and your understanding are not even close. Please, pretty please, show me some evidence that supports your reckless claim? You are always making comments without any facts. Write a post, list the proof, show some ducumentation that supprots your bullshit claims. Splain’ it would ya? You want to comment and make these anti Wray claims all day but you never show proof. No wonder you love Jordan Green so much.
