Double Hung on Fox 8

Update (side note): Although it is not a portion of the clip below, Brad related something on the air that I thought you might find interesting.

We have been working on Peace College’s Main Building in Raleigh for several months now. Built in 1853, 98% of the structure’s original windows are still in service but were in dire need of rehabilitation.

As we were removing the old wavy, distorted, glass to work on the sash, we noticed that several of the lower panes in the dormitory areas had been etched over the years. Bearing dates, initials, notes and symbols, it was obvious from deciphering the markings on the glass that generations of Peace’s girls had used their diamond jewelry for something other than wowing their fellow students.

As we encountered the etched panes, we catalogued their location in each sash and gently replaced those bits of history back in their original locations. Although our efforts toward retaining the subtle history of that building were not specified in any contract, we just thought it to be the right thing to do.

Fox 8 TV featured my company – Double Hung, LLC – in Brad Jones’ “Brad’s Old Stuff” series. The segment aired during today’s morning show and was very well done. When we got to talking, Brad “got it” immediately… the thing about most “energy efficient” replacement windows is that you have to keep replacing them every 20 years or so because of their inferior materials and construction. There is nothing “energy efficient” about that.

The other thing to remember when you hear cheap vinyl window hawkers tell you their products are “maintenance free”, what they really mean is that they can’t be repaired. When something goes wrong with cheap, petroleum-based windows – like a piece broken glass – you’ll usually have to replace the entire window.

While I am happy and grateful for the exposure, any calls we get from the publicity will have to get in line. We are booked until at least September.

I missed it, but Kathy saw it. She described it as seeing you on “Brad’s Old Folks.”

Didn’t see the clip but Brad and Matt said yall had a nice visit. Brad Jones is top-rate. You’ll not meet a bigger goofball. Plus he has that cool anchor hair. Sometimes he lets me run my fingers through it while he rattles on about school closings or some such. Anyway, I’d better go before I share something embarassing.
