Ransom Note

William “Billy” Ranson Hobbs (aka Ransom Note) has been identified as the man I saw firefighters carry from The Castle on Summit Avenue Saturday morning.  He was murdered and the other victim of the fire,  Deborah Moy, was beaten badly prior to being set ablaze and left to die.  Deborah suffered a broken jaw and burns over 60% of her body according to neighbors who have been in contact with the family.

No suspect or motive has yet been identified by the police according to the most recent reporting.  On Saturday, Police Chief Bellamy initially characterized the crime as being “domestic” in nature, so my guess is that they know who the perpetrator(s) is, but just aren’t saying yet.

Understandably, the neighborhood is ripe with trepidation and abuzz with rumors, theories, suspicions and second-hand reports from people who say they were with the victims up until 3:00a on Saturday.  Some of it fits with the known facts and others… not so much.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Ransom, but apparently he was quite a guy as evidenced by this thread.  I also hear he was one hell of slide guitar player.

Here’s some weirdness: Saturday night, we were with one of the guys who went into the burning house and alerted people to get out. As he’s telling us what happened, another guy he works with gets a text telling him his friend died in a fire, and he realizes it’s the same fire, same guy. Small world. Sad world. Like you, we heard lots more than what’s been in the media so far. So tragic. Don’t know what all’s true at this point, but one thing I do know: Ransom certainly was well thought of, and he will be missed by his friends.

    David,
My thoughts are with you also.
To witness an event like you have described can be mentally disturbing.
I wish you well my friend.

    David,
Is it possible to get a picture posted of Ransome Hobbs. I believe he may have been one of my YMCA acquaintances that I simply knew in passing, but thought he was a very nice guy. I saw him riding his bike in the hood recently, and can’t stop wondering if it’s the same man.
    Thanks,
    Dean
