Hoggard for queen

In another, albeit non-partisan, upcoming election, I am pulling for Hannah Josephine Hoggard to become Grimsley High School’s 2009 homecoming queen.

She was one of 12 finalists who made the cut to circle the track on board a fancy convertible during the halftime activities during next Friday’s homecoming game at Jamieson Field.

I’m pretty proud of my little girl.

Nope… gave it up after 8th grade. But she did just QB the senior girls to the school’s powder puff championship.

It seems like yesterday when I met Josie. She was my first friend in the ‘hood’. I was playing with my beloved dog Charley (who has since gone on to the Rainbow Bridge and hanging out with Titus) at the field at Aycock Middle School when this cute little girl with a cast on her arm came over and to meet Charley. It was love at first sight for Charley and me. I have watched her flip back and forth from tomboy to dresses and make up, and now she’s a beautiful young lady who regardless of how the vote turns out IS my homecoming queen!

Josie, your dad just called and informed us of you being runner up in the Grimsley Homecoming. Congratulations sweetheart, but the only surprise to me is that you were not elected Queen. Your grandmother “Dot” and I have had the pleasure of watching, from afar, you grow in to the beautiful young lady that you are. Our only regret is that we haven’t been near enough to witness all of your accomplishments. We love you,

    Papa and Dot

With all the news of violence just around the corner and in other parts of town , I spent a pretty sleepless night. So this morning I checked Hogg’s Blog to see if any one had heard anything and up pops this great news about Josie. She is one remarkable young lady. It’s great to see that her classmates see it too.
    That makes my day.
