School Uniform Links

I’m not going to get stuck on school uniforms, but it was recently stated in an Aycock staff meeting that other Guilford County middle schools are going to see “how it goes at Aycock” before proposing similar policies.  My school is apparently going to be the proving ground.  Just my luck… I need another public controversy in my life like I need a hole in my head.

Brother Keith’s children attend Jefferson County Public Schools in Kentucky and his middle school has required uniforms for several years, their dress code can be found here.

I tell you this because he has done a great deal of research on the subject and has compiled quite a list of links to discussion and studies on the issue:  that list can be found here.  In addition, a very spirited exchange can be found in the comments sections of my original posts on the issue: 3/22 and 3/23

Major public policy decisions should be based on hard data, not feelings and perception.  For this reason I will add every link that crosses my desktop on the issue to the list as time goes on , both pro and con.  When I get enough, I will create a separate page of links for both sides.  Send ‘em if you’ve got ‘em.

I would also be interested in sample policies regarding how dress code requirements are applied.  Opt outs, punishments for infractions, financial assistance sources, mandatory vs optional,… etc.  Send those if you’ve got ‘em also.
